LOUD IN BENIN!
THE MIDWEST DECLARATION – INVITATION TO WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE

I write you on behalf of the MIDWEST MOVEMENT - a vanguard of professionals, academicians, entrepreneurs and patriots drawn from both DELTA & EDO States.

On August 9, 1963, the MIDWESTERN REGION was created as the FOURTH REGION of Nigeria, after the July 13, 1963 Referendum/Plebiscite. This singular act makes the Midwest the ONLY CONSTITUTIONALLY CREATED FEDERATING UNIT (State or Region) of Nigeria: the only major administrative unit of Nigeria created by due constitutional process.

THE 9th OF AUGUST 2017 marks the 54th anniversary of the creation of the MIDWESTERN REGION.

The creation of the MIDWEST Region (BENDEL State) articulated the Voice for Minority Rights within the Nigerian Federation. In recent times, the Nigerian narrative has come under severe scrutiny. We live in a nation of man-designed fault-lines: as a nation, Nigeria faces an Existential Threat. Hypothetically, the Midwest/Bendel people, (EDO & DELTA States), are caught in betwixt! But we refuse to be anyone's Canon Folder.

On behalf of the Management Council, Leaders, Members of the MIDWEST MOVEMENT, and the millions of Delta ad Edo peoples at home and abroad, I humbly invite you to the WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE NIGERIA FEDERATION AND THE STAND OF THE MIDWEST REGION/BENDEL (EDO & DELTA States).

Date: WEDNESDAY 9 AUGUST 2017.

Venue: Main Hall, Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, Airport Road, Benin City.

Time: 10am

Please be assured of our most esteemed regards.

God bless Delta & Edo States. God Bless our country, Nigeria.

Up BENDEL!
Don Pedro Obaseki, MBA, PhD.

Omohan Ebhodaghe:
There are MANY schoolteachers, college lecturers and university professors in Esan but there are ONLY three active Esan literary figures in Edo state, Nigeria. They are Omohan Ebhodaghe, 50 years, male, BA, PGDE, London, UK, author of the long-awaited and expected GREAT Nigerian novel IN THE MIDST OF LOAFERS, 945 pages; Odia Ofeimun, 61 years, male, BSc, Lagos, Nigeria, the 2010 Fonlon-Nichols award winner and author of THE POET LIED; and, Festus Iyayi, 64 years, male, Ph.D, Benin city, Nigeria, author of the Commonwealth prize-wining novel HEROES. Anyone else? They are like political state governors in stature.
In a population of 2.16 millions in 1991, and more in 2012, these are the MAJOR or rather BEST KNOWN Edo state writers: Eghosa Imasuen, Omohan Ebhodaghe, Odia Ofeimun, Funso Aiyejina, Festus Iyayi, Onaiwu Osahon and Zulu Sofola. Any more? They are like political state governors in stature.

A British Army soldier who collapsed and died on a three-mile moorland run during a training exercise has been named by the Ministry of Defence.

Private Michael Ihemere, 26, from Umuodo, Nigeria, was a member of the 1st Battalion, The Mercian Regiment, who joined fierce fighting while serving in Afghanistan.

He collapsed on Wednesday morning while taking part in an exercise on Army ranges near Leyburn, North Yorkshire.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers are working with the Army to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death, which is not suspicious, so that a file can be prepared on behalf of the coroner.”

The soldier’s collapse followed the deaths of three reservists in the Brecon Beacons who were undertaking special forces selection when temperatures reached 30C last month. They were carrying fully laden Bergens and belt kit but it was not clear if the soldier in the latest incident was carrying a simliar weight

These anti-Edo political organizations you folks went to join are the most anti-African - and Africans - in the world.

They're worse than anything; we obviously can't stop you though, even Ewuare II's manifest destiny lies in our own regional party.

We have egba Omo Oduduwa and so on, NPC, AG, the forerunner of them all NCNC and then now these cancers of today.

Stay "with them", but register for your most important election first: your local election, register Edo Political Front, and if you don't, vote the front.

No self respecting Edo will - in the future - find themselves the flag bearers and cheerleaders of foreign parties with indirect rule political and economic mandates, it just doesn't work.

No sane Edo person lives to "have the ear" of someone who doesn't have Edo at their heart.

The Supreme Court is the place to remove the frustration of these lethargic and "periodic" additions to the voting rolls; here - where I live - you can fill in the forms regarding changing your voter registration at the post office and other easy access places.

At the rate things are going we're going to find ourselves truly in decline as our populations suffer from simple things like protein deficiencies in children
