Introduce the teachings of Edo language in our schools – BTC

The need for Edo State Government and relevant establishments to revisit the issue of implementing the teaching and learning of Edo Language in Schools in the state has been emphasised.

In a statement, Chief Osayomwanbo Osemwengie Ero, the Edobayokhae of Benin and Chairman, BTC Edo Language Committee expressed concern that despite the intervention of Governor Adams Oshiomhole on the introduction of teaching Edo Language in Schools, the Ministry of Education and teachers are yet to show interest on the issue.

Chief Ero pointed out that children, who speak their mother tongue are known to be more proficient in other foreign languages and can communicate better.
He recount how the Edo language committee set6 up by the Oba of Benin and how the Benin Traditional Council in a seminar in 2006 worked on a modular construction on Edo Language syllabuses for Primary one to six, Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School under the auspices of Edo State Ministry of Education and some experts from the National Education Research Council, Abuja.

According to the statement, implementation of the teaching and learning of Edo language will improve the standard of education and give solid cultural foundation to the Edo Child.
