UROMI , EDO STATE:
It is , doubtless , celebration galore as an ivory tower of academia gleefully finds its way into the commercial town of Uromi after a ding-dong battle. My joy knew no bounds when the news was broken and circulated on the social media. Uromi , a sub-ethnic group of the Binis has been an important part of the Benin Kingdom. It is a commercial town situated at the apex of the vast Esan plateau in the north central parts of Edo State , Nigeria. Its indigenes are traditionally industrious and its strategic geographical location serves as gateway to the east from north central Nigeria & Nigerian capital city of Abuja. It is today the administrative headquarters of Esan North East Local Government Area. Uromi is a connurbation of villages ruled over by a monarch, His Royal Highness Anslem Omhenlenmhen Eidenojie. This commercial town first came to limelight during the colonial era when Chief Anthony Enahoro an indigene of this town and one of Nigeria's foremost nationalists first confronted the British in 1957 by moving the historic motion for Nigeria's Independence. Today Uromi parades the likes of Esan High Chief Anthony Anenih, Chairman Board of Trustees of the ruling People's Democratic Party and Nigeria's current Minister of Works, Arch Mike Onelemhemmhen. All roads would henceforth lead to Uromi following the establishment of a Federal University of Science and Technology in this ancient town by the Federal Government.
