Mrs. Jonathan is the founder of Women for Change and Development Initiative.
“The initiative came into existence out of my passion to better the lives of women, children and the vulnerable in the society.
“The activities of the Women for Change initiative are; empowerment of women, support for female contestants irrespective of their political party, weekly health talk shows, corrective surgery for children with heart conditions and peace advocacy among other things,’’ she explained.
The National Coordinator of the Non Governmental Organisation, Rabi Ibrahim represented the First Lady.
The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen praised the efforts of the First Lady in advancing the welfare of women and described Mrs Jonathan as ‘a rare gift to Nigeria.’
The minister who chaired the event, promised to contribute significantly in making the Edo State chapter a success.
Rabi Ibrahim and members of the Women for Change had paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Benin, Omo N’Oba Erediauwa.
He commended the activities of the First Lady and also gave his royal blessing and support for the initiative.
The National Coordinator and her team also visited the Esama of the Benin Kingdom, Gabriel Igbinedion.
Igbinedion and his wife, Cherry Igbinedion praised the vision of Mrs Jonathan in addressing gender issues and contributing to stabilise peace in the nation and in Africa generally.
